Although Mary was to marry Joseph, she was found with a child through Holy Spirit even before they came together, but Joseph, being righteous, planned to divorce her quietly to avoid exposing her to disgrace. But he had a dream where an angel revealed to him that the baby was from the Holy Spirit and he has to take Mary to his home as wife. He should name the son as Jesus.Joseph did as he was told. Meanwhile, King Herod heard about Magi from the East who asked where was the king of Jews born as he saw the star in the east.

Herod sent the Magi to Bethlehem to search for the child. They found the child with Mary and worshipped him, offering him presents and treasures. They returned to their country after being warned not to go back in a dream. Joseph had a dream where he was asked to escape to Egypt as Herod was searching to get the child killed. Herod, having realized that he was outwitted was furious and ordered all 2 year old babies in Bethlehem to be killed, as per the time given by the Magi. After the death of Herod, the angel appeared in Joseph’s dream again asking him to take the child and mother to Israel as the people who were trying to kill their child are dead.
After this dream Joseph proceeded to the land of Israel. But he was afraid because Archelaus, after the death of his father Herod, was reigning in Judea. He went to the Galilee district where he lived in Nazareth, a small town. Therefore, the story reveals that what was said through prophets was fulfilled one by one. First it was told that the virgin will be with child giving birth to a son called Immanuel, meaning God be with us. Then Lord had said through the prophet, “Out of Egypt, I called my son.” This too was fulfilled. Lastly, God spoke through the prophet, “He will be called Nazarene.” This was finally fulfilled when Joseph arrived in Nazareth with the child and His mother.
